The interpretations given here are not meant to be definitive. As you grow your intuition and imagination, you will develop your own understanding of the essences of Symbolism. Real understanding comes from inner reflection, thought, meditation and experience.

A welcomed card in any tarot reading, signifying success in the material world, showing up when we are satisfied with what we have achieved. These are hard earned gifts.
The nine of coins is also known as the “Wish” card. Getting what you want and letting good things happen. “Let go, let God”. Sometimes we don’t think we deserve rewards, the nine of cups reminds us that’s not true. We deserve good things, wishes coming true and that we have the power to move things toward. Our efforts will be rewarded.
For a career or money reading, this card may signify income success or an investment that pays off. May suggest a promotion or buying a home. Again, these are rewards from effort.
Showing restraint and reining in impulses are sacrifices in order to reach a goal. Taking a step-by-step approach and sticking to a program will eventually lead to success. A desire for pursuing high-minded activities and relying on yourself are strong themes with the nine of pentacles.
When doing a romantic reading, drawing this card suggests reaching success after putting in the effort to succeed in a relationship and/or love interest. May also represent pregnancy – take precautions if this unwanted. May also indicate a wedding.
For a reading when deciphering personality types, this card appearing might indicate wanting to be alone and/or doing things independently in order to achieve comfort (financially or emotionally). This personality is diplomatic and tactful. A person who practices a “my way or the highway” attitude with a taste for a leisurely lifestyle.

Symbolism within the nine of pentacles in the Rider-Waite deck includes the falcon, grapes, castle and snail.
The falcon (or peacock) has long been associated with the elite’s hunting for sport. During Medieval times, it was a crime punishable by death to steal or injure prized raptors.*
Furthermore, falcons represent a keen intellect and focus. They can hone into a target and superiorly take the prize. A reminder when seeing the nine of cups show up in a tarot spread. Traditionally the falcon represents a sun symbol. In turn, it’s associated with power, potency and vibration/energy.
Symbolic cues from the fruit often depicted in this tarot card are to focus on something in order to bear fruit. This energy enhances connections and a nurturing community. The symbol of grapes in some versions, may represent transformation, blessings, fertility and abundance. Historically, grapes are symbols of hospitality and bounty.

Unsurprisingly, the castle symbolism deals with the physical representation of building with a strong foundation and sheltering ourselves (which can mean limiting ourselves).
Lastly, the symbolism of the snail, a slow but steady moving creature who holds on to security (carrying his home on his back). Let’s not ignore the spiral found on its shell. A spiral may represent consciousness, an idea that emits change.
